Since I have a regular weekly teaching position at a major art school and the classes that I teach include
figure painting, design and composition as well as both representational and abstract watercolor I bring to my workshops a wide variety of teaching possibilities and a broad artistic knowledge base. In my
workshops I have a lesson plan that covers all phases of making a good painting from color theory to the
effects of light on the subject matter. I will also design a workshop specifically for the groups’ specific
interests. Each day begins with a lesson that covers several areas of the painting and creative process, for example, how to paint a specific type of light, how to apply the colors in order to achieve the effect the artist is looking for, or abstracting the subject matter to a more simple and expressive design. I then do a complete painting demonstration, which covers the key points of the days’ lesson and incorporates many pointers on the painting process. If needed I will break the lesson into a more basic component for the beginning student and set the bar a little higher for the more advanced in the group. After the demo I will work with all students helping them with paintings and offering critiques and suggestions. I stay with the class all day and am there for advice, conversation and critiques. I believe it is my job to give you all of the information that I have, and that you are hiring me to teach you about painting and how to think like an artist. My goal is to get you painting in the style that works for you and interpreting your favorite subjects not mine. I try to mix serious instruction with a humorous delivery and it does help if you like either baseball or tennis. Contact me for more information and also if you would like me to come and teach a workshop for your group.
